Top Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
So …. on Sunday 22nd March 2020, according to the definition offered by Wikipedia we, mums of the UK, can expect “a celebration honouring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society”.
Now, for some of us we may be visualising breakfast in bed, a beautiful card that took hours to choose, fresh flowers, a pre-booked three course meal in our favourite restaurant with our children lovingly staring at us (and behaving) and telling us how wonderful we are.
And then back to reality!!!
The mothers day card that sticks in my mind the most, well there are 2, was the one that read “you are like a mum to me” sent by my own child! And then there was the one that told me how wonderful I was cooking, washing, ironing and cleaning up – sent by my 10 month old child!!! (Thanks hubby for remembering).
For many of us though we are so keen to make sure our own mum’s and mum-in-law’s are remembered we forget that we too are mums. Choosing gifts for the special ladies in our lives can be a challenge. Traditional gift, personalised gift, adventurous gift, simple gift or just a card !?
For those of us with younger children the need to “spoil” mummy can be the best gift; breakfast in bed, homemade cards and gifts (thanks nursery schools and child-minders everywhere), cuddles and lots of kisses. I remember my little girl giving me a massage once courtesy of what she had been taught at school to help nurture positive touch and help the children to relax each other before naptime! Very gentle but beautiful and a gift I have yet to forget.
At Gifts from Handpicked we are predominantly a team of “mums” and will all I am sure have different experiences on Mothers Day to share in the office the day after. But as a gift company we want to share our favourite gift ideas for those of you as stuck as us what to buy our own mums, and of course you can always add 2 to your basket to cover the eventuality you don’t get the present you are dreaming of!
We can’t cook your lunch or tidy up after your children but we can bring a smile to your face!

I can remember one year after the hubby didn’t quite get the gift right on mothers day (Actually is was a beautiful piece of jewellery but he had forgotten to take the children with him when he bought it and all I wanted was them to be involved) and I said to him, “All I wanted was a mug saying mum”!

Thinking outside the box??
For those of thinking more of a treat and not a gift what about sourcing an ever-popular afternoon tea? A lot of smaller businesses offer themed afternoon teas with personal touches to make the experience more special than the bigger outlets. In Lincoln (the home of GFHP) there are quirky cafes offering afternoon teas from classic to American, served with hotdogs! We recently visited a wonderful family run business, which was based on the Downtown Abbey series. Everything from the décor to the staff uniform was authentically Edwardian and the choice of teas was truly scrumptious.
