Valentines Day - Commercial or Romantic

February - Valentines Day - Commercial or Romantic?

We have a secret to tell you, here at Gifts from Handpicked we absolutely love Valentine’s Day. In fact, we are the type of people that get a little bit wrapped up in the romance of it all. But we recognise that not everyone feels the same way about this loved up day as we do.

But why is this? What makes some people see Valentine’s Day as the ultimate day for couples, and what about those that think that it is the ultimate in commercial scam?

Romantic

The idea behind Valentine’s Day is that it a chance to show someone special in your life just how much they mean to you. Usually this is with a card, but plenty of couples decide to do flowers and gifts for one another.

It doesn’t seem to matter how old you are, or how long you have been together for, there is something lovely about being able to show someone that you love them.

Valentine’s Day isn’t only limited to couples, plenty of people use it to remind family members of friends that they are loved too.

The thing about Valentine’s Day is that it often encourages people who may find romance a little difficult, a chance to express themselves. It also reminds couples that perhaps don’t make quite as much time for one another (perhaps due to families and work etc) to come together and spend a little quality time with one another.

Commercial

It seems to becoming more and more common that some people don’t see Valentines Day for the romantic day that it is, and instead think of it as a commercial led event that is designed to make people spend money.

Of course, card shops and florists do well out of Valentine’s Day, but this is just the nature of business. Some people also say that you should show your partner that you love them every day, and at random times throughout the year, rather than waiting until you are told to share your feelings.

There is also the added cost of things on Valentine’s Day, such as flowers, as well as the thought that the local restaurants will be fully booked and a little more costly then they normally are!

So, there you have it, the reasons why some people think that Valentine’s Day is the best, and why others think it is the worst.

It really is down to your own personal feelings as to how you see Valentine’s Day. Whether you are someone who loves the idea of having a reason to be loving and romantic, or someone who hates the thought of being told what to do, what is important is that you share the love.

You could always make your own Valentine’s Day and have it when it suits you, rather than always going for the 14th February each and every year!
